Kalu was born in Douala Cameroon on the 10th day of October, 1992 into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ukoh Obiansi. He is the only son and the last of four children. His father died a month after he was born, but unlike most, he has used that as a fuel to drive his passions and ambition. Kalu started his musical journey at a very tender age as he paved his way quite quickly through the children and adult choirs of his Church. He worked with his friends Simeon and Odimegwu and they formed an acapella group called DE DONS OF WORSHIP.
In 2010, he was selected to represent Nigerian children in London by an NGO called ‘SAVE THE CHILDREN’ this lasted for two weeks. In 2012, Kalu auditioned for the prestigious first season of the Destiny Child Gospel Music Talent Hunt, though he was selected, he did not make the academy, he tried again in 2013 which was the second season of the show, where he finally gained access to the academy. With his electrifying and captivating performances he made it to the top SIX of the competition called the PROLIFIC SIX. Destiny Child marked a turning point in his life as he was awarded a scholarship to study abroad.
